Adolescent Treatment

At Myers Orthodontics, Dr. Myers, and our highly trained team of orthodontic specialists are proud to help our patients achieve healthy, beautiful smiles that last a lifetime. Though we serve patients of all ages, most of our clients are teenagers. Getting braces as a teen is so common that many people now think of it as a rite of passage.

Why Teens Need Braces

Considering that we can move healthy teeth at any age, is there a reason most people get braces during high school? As it turns out, our Knoxville orthodontist has some very good ones:

  • As adolescents, all the permanent tooth have just filled in. This is the best time to make adjustments — before complications develop or worsen.

  • Teens experience a higher metabolism and growth spurts that we can use to improve treatment times.

  • Braces are so common for teens that many are very receptive to the prospect of getting them now, as opposed to waiting until adulthood.

Orthodontic Treatment Options for Teens

Every teen is different, and we're proud to offer a variety of treatment options to suit each patient's needs. Here are some of our available treatment options:

  • Traditional Metal Braces: These high-grade, stainless steel, metal braces offer a reliable, durable, and cost-effective form of treatment for virtually any orthodontic condition.
  • Clear Braces: Clear braces use the same mechanisms as traditional braces, but the brackets are made from a transparent ceramic material that blends in with teeth.
  • Lingual Braces: Lingual braces work the same as regular braces, but the brackets are mounted to the inside (tongue side) of the teeth, making them invisible.
  • Teen Invisalign: Invisalign does away with brackets and wires entirely, instead relying on a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth.
